Harbouring Oceans, HAWK & Maria Kelly.
Friday 17 June | The Castle Tavern | 11pm
Harbouring Oceans are an Irish five-piece alternative pop / art rock outfit. Drawing heavily from genres outside their rock foundations, the sound of Harbouring Oceans is characterised by close harmony, deep rhythmic grooves and soulful vocal melodies. Hip-hop and electronica are also strong features in the band’s sonic signature. This dynamic sound ranges from quiet, almost ambient territory to squalls of thunderous noise! Harbouring Ocean’s “Along The Levee Tour,” will finish with a headline show in Dublin’s Button Factory on April 28th with support from We Were Giants, Vernon Jane and Farah Elle.
HAWK are a post-rock indie with a celestial air. The London/ Irish four-piece have been dipping into a heavier sound in 2016, balancing frustration with delicacy as they take on subjects from human rights to insomnia. The band showcased on this year’s Other Voices on RTE2, while building support from Hot Press and Nialler9, as well as BBC6 Music and BBC Introducing in the UK.
“One of the strongest records we’ve played this year” – Tom Robinson, BBC Radio 6 Music
Maria Kelly began playing guitar in Co. Mayo at the age of 10, and has been writing songs ever since. Her bitter-sweet music tells humanising and heartbreaking tales, with ‘pin-drop’ vocal precision that’s impossible to ignore. In the lead up to her performance for the Other Voices Music Trail 2015, Maria released her debut single ‘Before It Has Begun’ through Veta Records, to much acclaim.
“Her performance is heartbreakingly unassuming, yet holds everyone spellbound with a voice that could knock you sideways and songwriting chops that bring to mind artists like Julia Stone and Lisa Hannigan. One to watch for sure…”
