About the award
The Create and Carlow Arts Festival Artists Residency Award seeks to support cultural diversity in collaborative artistic practice in Ireland. We welcome applications from artists in all disciplines but particularly those from the Performing Arts, as this Residency does not offer studio space. This residency seeks to provide a platform for the selected artist to develop and/or consolidate collaborative arts practice, and will provide an opportunity for the artist to make contacts and identify resources, that may assist in the further development of their practice in Ireland.
The residency is funded through the Arts Council of Ireland’s Artist in the Community Scheme, which is managed by Create. This residency opportunity, which aims to support an artist from an ethnic minority to develop their collaborative and socially engaged arts practice, is offered through a partnership between Create and Carlow Arts Festival.
What the award involves
The award offers living accommodation for the period of the residency in Carlow (if the awarded artist is in a position to take up the accommodation – this is not a condition of the award) and desk space at the Carlow Arts Festival office.
The award also allows the artist access to all events at the festival, to the other artists included, and access to the delivery and programming team, advice or a combination of these elements, and an appropriate stipend.
The successful applicant will meet both Create and CAF ahead of the residency in an initial development phase to discuss in more detail how the opportunity can be best tailored to the artist’s needs, vis a vis space, additional supports and logistics in terms of travel and accommodation if required.
Making an application
(Note: the deadline for participation in 2019 has already passed)
* The residency is to the value of four calendar weeks, which will be structured with the artist during an initial development phase.
